May 2006 - Art Therapy in Disaster Relief following Floods in Uttaradit
Province On Tuesday 23 May
of 2006 the mountains of north Thailand, saturated by heavy rains, were the
scene of landslides and flash floods that killed many people. In Uttaradit
Province, over 40 people were lost along with orchards, bridges and homes.
The Faculty of Public Health at Burapha has sponsored an assessment of the
disaster and the survivors. Acting on ideas stimulated by the CHART/Burapha
University co-sponsored 2006 Bangkok
International Conference on Art
Therapy, a pilot project was set up to provide art training
and supplies for some of the orphaned children in uplands that suffered the
heaviest losses. Artists selected by the Burapha Faculty of Fine Arts were
sent to provide the training.
